| OUR STORY
After more than 30 years of community work in Louisville and across the country in the areas of art, advocacy, and non-profit organizing, Terra and Joe Leavell launched into a venture that would bring to bear their wealth of experience. The Leavells opened 1619 The Gathering Place in 2021, with a grand opening celebration that provided radical visibility and support to Black Entrepreneurs. The name they chose combined the building's address number with a moniker that defined intention of The Leavells in opening the business.
The Leavells desired to create space where Louisville's thinkers, creatives, decision makers, and all around beloved community could gather in luxury. Since its' opening, 1619 The Gathering Place has hosted Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Renowned Activist Tamika Mallory, Social Advocate and TV Personality Yandy Smith, and a host of others from all walks of life.
1619 The Gathering Place is perfectly positioned, both geographically and presentation wise, to serve Louisville with excellence, luxury, and quality for many years to come.
